Power Generating iPad Rocking Chair
Zurich-based design company Micasa Lab is developing a power-generating rocking chair, which charges your iPad or your iPhone as you rock.
Micassa Lab’s iRock is nothing less than a power generating rocking chair. It gives the classic rocker a modern-day twist, with an iPad stand, built-in 25-Watt speakers, and of course the iPad/iPhone dock. The stand is angled so users can sit back, relax and watch a movie, or can be adjusted to accommodate working and sending emails.
The iRock explores how furniture can interact with technology and actually support the power for this technology. It aims to harness the kinetic energy involved in rocking and put it to use recharging Apple devices.
“If you use iRock for 60 minutes you can recharge an iPad 3 to 35%”, explains the company’s product page.
The iRock is handcrafted out of Swedish pine wood and and painted in 5 layers to give it the flawless, shiny white look. At the moment iRock is only available in white but will be shipped in black, red, yellow and striped.
Although still listed as “under development” the company has put a tentative €1,300 ($1,686) price tag on the iRock.
