Honda Accord Wins Green Car of the Year
Honda Accord named the 2014 Green Car of the Year® by Green Car Journal at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
The Green Car of the Year® competition was launched in 2005 by Green Car Journal.
The program gives the Green Car Journal staff an opportunity to examine all Eco-friendly vehicles.
Criteria for the Green Car of the Year® involves much more than fuel economy, energy use, price and availability.
Significant is the potential for a applicant to bring the change and substantial environmental progress to the automotive industry.
Last year, the various Ford Fusion models (plug-in hybrid and hybrid) won the Green Car of the Year® award.
This year Honda’s Accord model emerged on top of an exceptional field of finalists including the Audi A6 TDI, BMW 328d, Mazda3, and Toyota Corolla.
According to Green Car Journal editors, the 2014 Honda Accord has developed in important ways to meet the needs of the green transportation market that seeks ever-higher fuel efficiency, lower CO2 emissions, and improved environmental impact, without sacrificing the features and driving experience expected by new car buyers.
The award recognizes the class-leading efficiency and performance of the Accord family of vehicles, including the fuel-efficient and low emissions Accord 4-cylinder and V-6 Coupe and Sedan, the EPA-rated 50 mpg city Accord Hybrid and the EPA-rated 115 MPGe combined Accord Plug-In Hybrid.
“Honda’s 2014 Accord clearly leads by example in the ‘green’ space and is a deserving winner of Green Car of the Year® honor,” stated Ron Cogan, editor and publisher of the Green Car Journal.
“Mainstream buyers have long found the Accord a popular choice because of its efficiency, functionality, safety, and value. With the addition of exceptional hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions to the already-fuel efficient Accord line, Honda’s Accord becomes an even more compelling choice.”, Cogan added
