How good is your memory?
If you ever went into a room and forgot why you went in there you have had a short term memory problem.
Short term memory is working memory. This is where we hold information we are aware of at any given moment. Working memory has limited or short capacity.
The exercise below will help determine your limit. For this exercise, you will need a paper and pen.
Look at the below words for one minute and try to remember as many as possible. After a minute take a paper and pen and without looking at the screen write down as many of the words as you remember.

How many words did you get correct? Now try the same thing but with a 10 digits number given below.
How many digits did you get correct this time? You may find it difficult to recall all information given in these exercises.
According to researcher George A. Miller, the average person’s short-term memory can hold about 7 pieces (plus or minus two items) of information. To handle more information than that, the information must be ‘chunked up’. Chunking is the method of taking smaller pieces of information and grouping them into larger items so they can be more easily remembered.
For instance, it is much easier to remember 701 93 79 809 than 7019379809.
To remember more words you can create a few chunks by grouping items into categories like fruits or colors.
